I love my clients. But some clients touch me more than others. Katie is one of them. I’m probably doing her hair for about 6 or 7 years now. She’s an older woman, retired and living in an apartment. Some of her friends are also my clients, so we share that in common. We also love a lot of the same tv shows and are always comparing views on that. She loves to talk and one of the best things I love about my role as a stylist is my ability to listen. At times I have to tune her out a tad to concentrate on what I am doing but by no means do I not value and appreciate that she wants to tell me anything from her relationship with her kids, the pain she still feels over the loss of her mother, and so on. I did however realize at some point that she more than other clients really needed me to hear her. She lives alone, she’s not working, and she often tells me how she loves coming to the salon and how it’s her therapy. So after that realization, I am all ears more than ever. I now make it a point to compliment, ask questions, and be as attentive as I can. Some people really don’t have as much human interaction as others and there’s no way I’m letting her go feeling less than listened to and appreciated. I do see that she appreciates all I do for her and quite frankly all I’m doing is what you would expect from anyone. Giving her my full attention and my best intention. That simple. Now I see her as an angel. Truly one of Gods children, and I value her. Without knowing, she gives me as much a “service” as I give her, and I am grateful.
K K K Katie.

Cosmetologist and Stylist since 1986. I've been fascinated with people my whole life. What makes them react and do the things they do as individuals and humans. But also much deeper than the physical being and listen to their souls and their journey on this planet. I've been blessed to have touched so many, and to have them touch me in a way they're not even aware of. For that I will always be grateful.
