I was still assisting and shampooing clients. It was the mid 80’s. Lillian and I liked each other and connected on a level much deeper than the norm. She was a divorced woman in her 40’s with 2 boys. We shared a spiritual if not a religious belief system that made us always have something in common to talk about when she came into the salon. I forget the exact reason she was going through a sad patch in her life. Maybe her divorce, or how her kids were taking it, but she was feeling the pressures of life weighing down on her and a sense of being “lost”. She told me a story of how her younger son felt her sadness and wanted to do something to cheer her up and gave her a little statue he was able to buy for her. Probably a few bucks from his allowance. She took it out of her bag and it was a little statue of a lamb. She felt it was a sign that everything would be ok because to her it wasn’t as simple as a toy statue of a lamb. It was the lamb of God. Protecting her and her kids. As she told me this story, tears welled in my eyes and I felt the joy that she did. It was beautiful. I never will forget that feeling of assurance that she felt from the small gesture from her child.
Lillian’s little Lamb.

But also much deeper than the physical being and listen to their souls and their journey on this planet. I've been blessed to have touched so many, and to have them touch me in a way they're not even aware of. For that I will always be grateful.
